The nexus between a decorated Jammu and Kashmir Police officer and the terrorists is likely to ruffle many a feather as the past of the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Devinder Singh is going to haunt the intelligence agencies for long. He had joined the counter-insurgency Special Operations Group (SoG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police as a sub-inspector and became a DSP.
There are signs of revival of mainstream political activity in Kashmir after the revocation of Article 370 on August 5 with the National Conference and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) holding meetings on Monday. The PDP leadership met for the first time since the abrogation of Article 370 at party headquarters in Srinagar. It was regarding the fourth death anniversary Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on January 7.
Two militants were killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in south Kashmir district of Shopian on Saturday, official sources said. Meanwhile, mobile internet service in Shopian has been suspended as a precautionary measure to prevent rumours. The identity of militants was being ascertained, they said adding the operation was going on when the reports last came in.
Security forces on Wednesday arrested three youths in south Kashmir in connection with the Banihal blast case. Official sources said that following specific information, three youth were arrested from a village in south Kashmir district of Shopian. The arrests come just two days after police arrested Owais Amin, who allegedly drove the car, and recovered two Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) of which only one exploded on Saturday.
