Around 1,400 people had been arrested for violation of Covid-19 lockdown guidelines, Odisha Police DG Abhay said here on Monday. The DGP said over 1,500 lockdown violation cases had been registered in the state. Of this, 61 cases were for home quarantine violation. More than 700 sub-inspectors, 162 cops and 1,000 vehicles have been deployed in Odisha to implement the lockdown.

The Kerala High Court on Monday granted parole till April 30 to all prisoners in Kerala who are either undertrials or remand prisoners, provided they are sentenced to less than seven years imprisonment. According to reports on the 54 jails in the state there are 8600 prisoners and this move could benefit around 1000 prisoners. However, habitual criminals will not get the benefit of this parole.

The number of COVID-19 positive cases rose to 193 in Maharashtra, besides six dead so far. The positive cases include five new cases in Pune, four in Mumbai besides one each in Nagpur, Sangli and Jalgaon, who are undergoing treatment in different hospitals. Among the positive cases under treatment till date, the condition of at least five has been described as ‘critical’.
The central and state governments on Sunday issued consolidated guidelines for the containment of coronavirus in the wake of a 21-day countrywide lockdown. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday massively reduced the key lending rates in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Accordingly, the Monetary Policy Committee of the central bank in an unscheduled meet reduced the repo rate by 75 basis points to 4.40 per cent from 5.15 per cent.
Militants fired at a CRPF checkpost in Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Thursday evening and later fled from the area. The Indian government on Thursday extended the ban on all international flight operations till April 14 to contain the spread of Covid-19. The DGCA, in a circular, said that this restriction will not apply to international cargo operations and flights which have specifically been approved by it.
