Bhubaneswar, Nov 21 (IANS) As many as 18,683 people died in road accidents in the last four years in Odisha, said Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera on Thursday. Replying to a question, the Minister told the state Assembly that 4,463 people were killed in 10,532 accidents in 2016 and 4,790 deaths occurred in 10,855 accidents in 2017. A total of 5,315 people died in 11,262 accidents in 2018 and 4,115 deaths in 8,203 accidents.

A fire broke out on the 13th floor office in Sales Tax Office building at ITO on Thursday morning. As per fire official, the fire took place at around 0835 hours and was brought under control and doused off by 0900 hours. A constable committed suicide owing to domestic issues in the Modinagar area of this district of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Wednesday. A magnitude 6.0 earthquake has been registered in the central part of Argentina, the national seismological center said on Wednesday. Tremors occurred at 2310 hrs (GMT) on Tuesday. At least 11 people were trapped underground after a coal mine accident in the city of Jining, east China’s Shandong Province, local authorities said on Wednesday. The accident occurred at around 5:50 a.m. Wednesday at Liangbaosi coal mine in Jiaxiang County. The coal mine has an annual production capacity of 3 million tonnes. Rescue work is under way.
Syrian air defenses on Wednesday responded to foreign missile strikes on Damascus, state media reported. The air defenses intercepted a number of missiles in southern Damascus, said the state TV. Sound of explosions was reverberating across the capital city early Wednesday morning, it reported. Beijing, Nov 19 (UNI) At least 15 people were killed and nine others injured in a coal mine gas explosion in north China’s Shanxi Province. The blast occurred on Monday when 35 miners were working underground at the coal mine in Pingyao County, Xinhua reported. Fifteen people were killed in the blast and eleven miners managed to escape.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the Edamon-Kochi power highway, enabling the State to receive power from any part of the country through its 400 KV transmission network. the Chief Minister said the project, completed by Powergrid Corporation, could help reduce transmission loss.
Sources said the 400 kV power transmission network had increased the State’s power import capability by 800 MW. The 148-km Edamon-Kochi line has 447 towers.

Three youths were killed in a collision between a bike on Kolhapur-Sangli bypass road here, police said on Monday. The deceased were identified as Gunpal Nandkmar Roje (27), Suhas Kothavale (26), and Anjikya alias Vipul Ramesh Patil-Raigonda(26), police said. The incident occurred late on Sunday night when the three, going on a motor-cycle, were hit by a speeding tempo.
The Rupee on Monday advanced by 19 paise to 71.59 in opening trade on selling of US Dollars by bankers and exporters, dealers at the Forex Market said. High fluctuation was seen in early trade today, as the local unit registered intra day high and low at 71.75 and 71.58 respectively. Weak dollar against other world currencies and positive opening in stock market pushed the Rupee up, they added.

The Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari on Saturday took stock of the damage to crops caused by unseasonal rains during October – November 2019, and announced the financial relief to the affected farmers. A relief of Rs 8,000 per hectare up to 2 hectare for agricultural Kharif crops and a relief of Rs 18,000 per hectare up to 2 hectare for horticulture/ perennial crops was announced on Saturday. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced the Mukhyamantri Septic Tank Safai Yojana, under which the Delhi Jal Board will deploy 80 trucks, along with trained staff to ensure the cleaning and maintenance of the septic tanks across Delhi. The scheme will also ensure the safety of sanitation workers and proper septic waste management to prevent contamination of river Yamuna.
One person died while seven others were injured after six vehicles collided with one another at Old Goa bypass on Thursday. According to police, a total of eight persons were injured in the accident. They were admitted to Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital. While one passed away during treatment and seven were undergoing treatment. Condition of two were stated to be critical.
