At least 29 people have been killed in Gujarat till today (July 16) due to recent floods other rain-related incidents. South Gujarat region, particularly Valsad, Navsari, Junagarh, Gir Somnath and Amreli districts have been affected the most.
There were reports of waterlogging on many of the roads, including the national highways. Due to incessant rains, five state highways and roads of around 144 village panchayats have been closed for traffic.
Teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed at 11 locations in the state. An alert has been sounded in the state and fishermen have been advised not to venture out in the sea.
Around 50,000 residents of low-lying areas have also been shifted to safer places following heavy showers.
