Solar power used to run metro for the first time in Delhi

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Thursday started receiving 27 megawatts (MW) solar power from Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa Mega Solar Power plant. For the first time, solar power was used for operating trains on the Delhi Metro. Till now, solar power was utilised for auxiliary requirements such as lighting and air conditioning of stations.

Pakistan: At least 14 dead in armed attack on passenger bus

A group of unidentified gunmen attacked a bus in the Pakistani province of Balochistan, killing at least 14 passengers, media reported on Thursday.
According to Balochistan Inspector General of Police Mohsin Hassan Butt, around 15-20 unidentified armed assailants in camouflage uniform reportedly stopped five or six buses travelling between Karachi and Gwadar, Dawn reported.  The motive behind the killings and the identity of the victims are yet to be ascertained.

Three people were killed when a private bus overturned in Shivamogga distrcit

Ivory Coast destroys 18,000 tonnes of dangerous rice

Officials in Ivory Coast are destroying 18,000 tonnes of rice that has been declared unfit for human consumption. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) issued Rs 50 denomination banknotes bearing the signature of Governor Shaktikanta Das. ‘The design of these notes is similar in all respects to Rs 50 banknotes in Mahatma Gandhi (new) series,’ RBI statement said on Tuesday. ‘All banknotes in the denomination of Rs 50 issued by the Reserve Bank in the past will continue to be legal tender,’ it added.

At least 30 people dead in dust storm, heavy rains

At least 30 people have died and several others injured in the rains accompanied with duststorm in several parts of the country including Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Manipur, officials said on Wednesday. As many as nine persons, including four children, died in Rajasthan as lightning struck many areas in the state. Several districts in the state of Gujarat have been severely affected.At least 10 people died in Madhya Pradesh.

Afghanistan: Over 20 militants killed, 21 villages recaptured

At least 20 militants were killed and 21 villages have been recaptured over the past 24 hours as security forces operations against Taliban fighters are going on in parts of Afghanistan’s Ghazni province, provincial government spokesman said on Wednesday.
